Motel apartments, also known as motels, motor lodges or motor inns are a form of accommodation unique to New Zealand and ideally suited to independent travelers. Typical features are self-contained units with kitchen facilities; parking is conveniently close to your unit; rooms serviced daily unless otherwise agreed; clean, spacious and comfortable accommodation. (New Zealand Motel Association).
Motels appeal to people who would like more independence and flexibility than a Hotel or Bed & Breakfast typically provide.
Te Anau is considered the Gateway to Fiordland, and is an ideal base for those planning to visit Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, the Te Anau Glowworm Caves or the numerous world renowned walking tracks and other local sights in Fiordland. Te Anau is the closest town to these scenic locations and the departure point for many popular trips. Milford Sound itself has limited accommodation and services due to the historic glaciers, which carved sheer bluffs and left very little flat land available to build infrastructure on.
